NAMM 2018 – Friends, Biz & Fun

NAMM 2018 was an even bigger convention than in previous years with new halls of exhibiters. It just grows and a grows with tens of thousands of attendees from around the world checking out music gear from manufacturers large and small. I was proud to attend representing Magical Minutes Piano Adventures, a wonderful education series for whom I’ve produced over 250 songs in recent months.President/Author Mike Urquhart has created a wonderful, deeply thought out program that totally engages young students.

Like always NAMM is a chance to get my hands on all kinds of gear and to meet great people from the brands. And it’s especially great for running into musical friends from now and the past. Great times.

Magical Minutes – Producing An Educational Program

I am so thrilled to be producing songs for Magical Minutes Piano Adventures, the brainchild of president/author Mike Urquhart. When Mike told me I’d be producing 246 songs I knew it would be a huge endeavor. It’s even bigger than I guessed. But also very rewarding. I’ve met great people and had the pleasure of making a lot of great music. Mike has written wonderful songs which also serve as fantastic teaching tools.

I’m delighted to bring them to life performed by live players. Drummer Brandon Lynch has played amazing tracks in a great variety of styles. A real accomplishment. Guitarist Todd McCool, ditto. So much talent and dedication. In addition to producing and engineering, I perform bass and piano.

Here’s to great success for this program created from a place of care and experience. Grateful to work with such a great team.

National Dog’s Day – My Song For Vivien

Songwriter’s tip: if you haven’t yet written a song for your doggie, you’d better get busy. It’s National Dog’s Day. I thought I’d share my song “Vivien” in honor of our own puppy. Natasha Blasick and I perform this song with our band Snowflakes. Here’s the link to the streaming track:

Snowflakes performs with Once Upon A Time:Rock Opera at ComiCon 2016

My awesome band Snowflakes performed as the live “orchestra” at ComiCon 2016 in San Diego for a mulitmedia screening of Once Upon A Time: Rock Opera, a feature length film for which I was the music producer. It’s rock opera parody of the ABC Television series Once Upon A Time. Natasha Blasick kicked ass learning the bass parts and all the cues. Before the movie we performed a reworking of the theme from Hamilton. Funny stuff and a great time.

Quirky

Went through my library to find something quirky for a pitch. Not sure if this is what’s being sought, but had fun going through songs and listening to previous work and remembering the writing and recording sessions.

The Sex Trip

I’m thrilled to have written/produced 16 songs for the feature film “The Sex Trip“. By coincidence, my wife Natasha plays the role of Alexa in the film. We got separately booked on this movie several months apart. Also, it was a great pleasure to bring her in to sing the song “If You’re Feeling Sexy” (#10 on the playlist below). That was my doing.

“Hollywood Rising” – Song For Hollywood Gateway Sign

I’m thrilled to have contributed a song to a little piece of Hollywood history. There’s a smaller Hollywood Sign, not the world famous sign in the Hollywood Hills, but a vertical, thirty foot tall sign on a triangular park at the intersection of Cahuenga Blvd, Franklin Ave & Wilcox welcoming visitors into the area. On April 22, 2015 there was a lighting ceremony for the sign. I performed my song “Hollywood Rising”, which honors the sign with Kerry Crutchfield on drums. Together we make up two thirds of our long time trio, Hollywood Rhythm Kings.
