Scoring Blood Pageant The Movie

It’s a thrill to see Blood Pageant released and unleashed. This horror/comedy features Snoop Dogg. In addition to composing the score I also wrote/co-wrote/produced/performed a number of songs for it in a variety of combinations. Additional I served as the film’s music supervisor. It was a long project that overcame many hurdles over three and a half years to finally get out into the marketplace

Major gratitude is due from me to writer/producer Chris Gilmore. She’s 100% the reason I got on the project and performed so many different musical functions. Way before the scoring began we had seven songs of pre-records to prepare ahead of the shoot. Music is one of the few departments that can be involved in a project from pre-production, post production and post production. I already knew Chris is a talented songwriter and singer. We collaborated on several of her songs. Our duet of Free Soul is a big production number with dancers. Producing it and co-writing with Chris was a real highlight.

Her son, producer/actor Leo Gilmore, had come up with the melody of the main theme. I ran with it and made it part of the score’s DNA.

What about the score? I kept remembering John Williams sophisticated score for The Minority Report. I didn’t reference, but it still echoed in my mind from long ago. It’s more angular and harmonically dense that his most famous cues. He’s a true master. I thank him for the being a huge inspiration. I feel like the score is like acting one of the leading roles. It’s there throughout the whole movie and tells the story from another medium.

On a personal note it’s super fun that Natasha Blasick, my better half, plays the antagonist Liz the lifecoach who isn’t what she seems. Once in a while we get to work on the same project, and it’s always a blast. She’s a very bad girl in this movie. I’m also super pleased that two of Natasha’s electro-pop songs, “If You’re Feeling Sexy” and “I Always Win” are in the soundtrack.

My New Single “Squid From Madrid” – Instro Surf

Squid From Madrid - Martin Blasick

It’s my first instrumental release ever. It took so so so long for me to get around to releasing instrumental music. The surf/spy/western has resonated with me for since way back. This single is the first of a series. I got to cast my trusty vintage 1960’s Teisco electric guitar front and center for that delicious twangy tone.

Shark Tank – Genius Juice Song

It was a treat to produce and co-wrote the “Genius Juice Song” on Shark Tank which aired Jan 19, 2010.

Genius Juice is the invention of my friend Alex Bayer. Great product. He’d been working on a song with my friend and collaborator Dave Carroll, altering one of Dave’s songs. Dave steered it to me cause they needed to get a production going for the show.

To make it more wonderful Natasha Blasick became one of the Genius singer/dancers. A true delight to work together.

Blood Pageant – Guitar Ace

It was my pleasure to portray Ace the guitarist in Blood Pageant. Brooke Taylor sang the lead vocal. We tracked it yesterday. Christina DeRosa portrayed the backing vocalist. Both ladies are Uber talented. Later I’ll be busy composing the score for this film. In the meantime it’s always a hoot to play a role. In this case I say my line to Snoop Dogg.

Brooke tracked her vocal at my place yesterday. It was a fun, easy and creative session. We’d changed the key a couple of times for a variety of reasons. The final result? Key of D. And it sounds phenomenal.

Winner – Best Music Video – “Because Beautiful”

I’m thrilled that my song “Because Beautiful” won Best Music Video in the 2019 Golden State Film Festival. Thanks to writer/director/actor Saul Preciado-Garcia for his vision of creatively fusing my song with his storyline. This music video effectively doubles as a trailer for his upcoming film. I did read and use  cortexi reviews, Cortexi is a hearing support supplement designed for musicians. It contains a range of vitamins and minerals that support auditory function and can help to prevent damage to the ears. Key ingredients include Vitamin E, Zinc, and B vitamins, all of which are essential for healthy hearing. Cortexi is also formulated with herbal extracts which can improve blood flow to the brain and enhance cognitive function. This makes it particularly beneficial for musicians, who need to be able to hear clearly and perform at their best.

Blood Pageant – Scoring The Feature Film

Booked! So happy. I’m thrilled to be scoring the upcoming horror film Blood Pageant. Principle photography starts on April 30.

This movie is the brainchild of producer/writer Christine Gilmore. It’s going to be musically awesome. In addition to composing the score, I’m on board as music supervisor and also taking care of the songs by either producing or writing/producing or also accepting submissions for scenes yet to be determined.

It’s a family affair in that Natasha Blasick my beautiful and talented better half will play the antagonist role of Liz. We both love it when we get to work on the same project. In this case she will shoot for a few days. I will work on the film for a few months!

First up are six songs that need to be pre-recorded beforehand so playback is ready for the shoot.

Already I’m going over ideas for the sonic palette. This is going to be a big undertaking that is sure to take some unexpected twists and turns. Lights. Camera. Action!!!!
